Two police officers were killed in what is believed to be a fratricidal shooting incident in the Udhampur district of Jammu and Kashmir on Sunday morning, according to officials. The officers were en route from Sopore in north Kashmir to the Subsidiary Training Centre (STC) in Talwara, located in the Reasi district.
Their bullet-riddled bodies were discovered inside a police van near the Kali Mata temple in the Rehembal area at approximately 6:30 AM. A police spokesperson indicated that the Rehmbal police station received reports that two policemen traveling to STC Talwara in a departmental vehicle had sustained bullet injuries. Initial investigations suggest the incident involved both fratricide and suicide.
Senior police officials have arrived at the scene, and an investigation is underway. SSP Udhampur, Amod Nagpure, confirmed the time of the incident and stated that the officers were traveling from Sopore to the training center in Talwara. He noted that preliminary findings indicated the use of an AK-47 rifle in the shooting, resulting in the deaths of the two officers, a driver constable and a head constable.
A selection grade constable who was also in the vehicle escaped uninjured and is currently being interrogated.
