Simran Singh, a well-known freelance radio jockey and Instagram influencer from Jammu and Kashmir, was found dead in her rented apartment in Gurugram’s Sector 47. Police confirmed this on Thursday. Known as “Jammu Ki Dhadkan” (Heartbeat of Jammu), the 25-year-old had nearly seven lakh followers on Instagram. Her last post was a reel shared on December 13.
The incident came to light on Wednesday night when a friend, who lived with Simran, called the police after finding her room locked from the inside. When the door was forced open, authorities found her body hanging in the room. No suicide note was found. Simran was declared dead at a nearby hospital, and her body was given to her family after a post-mortem.
Police said initial investigations suggest suicide, but the exact cause is still being investigated. Simran’s family mentioned she had been upset recently but did not blame anyone for her death.
Simran, originally from Jammu, was loved for her lively personality and her ability to connect with listeners. Her fans saw her as a symbol of cultural pride for Jammu and Kashmir. In her last Instagram post, she wrote a playful caption: “Just a girl with endless giggles and her gown, taking over the beach.”
Political leaders from Jammu and Kashmir expressed their condolences. Farooq Abdullah, President of the Jammu and Kashmir National Conference (JKNC), and former Chief Minister Omar Abdullah praised her contributions to the region’s cultural identity. In a joint statement, they described her as a “voice and charm that resonated with the spirit of Jammu and Kashmir” and offered their sympathies to her family and fans.
Simran’s sudden death has left her followers and the local community mourning the loss of a vibrant personality who brought joy to many through her work.
