In a significant effort to combat drug trafficking, the Srinagar Police have arrested two people and seized a large amount of heroin. The operation took place at Barthana Crossing, where police stopped a Tata Sumo vehicle and found 8 kilograms of the drug.
While conducting a routine check, the police team from Police Post Qamarwari stopped the vehicle, which had two individuals inside. A thorough search revealed 6 kilograms of heroin hidden under the driver’s seat. Additionally, during a personal search, police found 2 kilograms of heroin, with each suspect hiding 1 kilogram in plastic bags.
The arrested individuals are Anas Ajaz Awan, from Dildar Tangdar, Kupwara, and Zahid Ahmad Sheikh, from Channipora, Tangdar, Kupwara. They are now facing serious charges under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.
The police have registered a case under FIR No. 03/2025 at the Parimpora Police Station, and investigations are ongoing. Initial reports suggest that the heroin was smuggled from Pakistan, indicating a larger drug trafficking network.

A police spokesperson emphasized their strong stance against drugs, stating, “We are committed to stopping drug trafficking and protecting our community.”
