Srinagar, 26 March – In a significant crackdown on unlawful activities, the Srinagar Police executed extensive searches across multiple locations in Srinagar and Sopore as part of ongoing investigations under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA). The operations are focused on individuals associated with several banned organizations, including the Jammu and Kashmir Muslim Conference (Bhat Group), Jammu and Kashmir Muslim League (Masrat Alam Group), and Jammu and Kashmir Democratic Freedom Party (Shabir Shah Group).
The police actions are linked to three specific cases registered under the UAPA, which aim to dismantle the remnants of the secessionist and terrorist ecosystem in the region. The cases include:
- FIR No. 15/2024: Registered at Police Station Rajbagh, Srinagar, under Sections 10 and 13 of the UAPA, along with Sections 121 and 121A of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
- FIR No. 04/2024: Registered at Police Station Saddar under Sections 10 and 13 of the UAPA.
- FIR No. 03/2024: Registered at Police Station Shaheed Gunj under Sections 10 and 13 of the UAPA.
The raids targeted the residences of key suspects, including Professor Abdul Gani Bhat in Sopore and his Srinagar residence in Wazir Bagh, Rajbagh. Additionally, searches were conducted at the home of Shabir Ahmad Shah in connection with FIR No. 04/2024.
In relation to FIR No. 03/2024, the police conducted searches at seven locations across Srinagar, focusing on individuals suspected of involvement in unlawful activities. The individuals targeted include:
- Masrat Alam Bhat, Zaindar Mohalla, Habba Kadal
- Mushtaq Ahmad Bhat (alias Gugga), Batmaloo
- Ghulam Nabi Wagay, Khanyar
- Feroz Ahmad Khan, Khanyar
- Mohammad Nazir Khan, Koolipora, Khanyar
- Hakeem Abdul Rashid, Botakadal, Lal Bazar
- Javaid Ahmad Munshi (alias Bilpapa), Methan, Chanpora
The searches were conducted following the issuance of search warrants by the Hon’ble Special Judge designated under the NIA Act in Srinagar. All operations were carried out in compliance with legal procedures, with the presence of an Executive Magistrate and independent witnesses to ensure transparency.
The Srinagar Police have reiterated their commitment to maintaining peace and security in the region. Authorities have warned that any individual found to be promoting violence, disruption, or unlawful activities will face stringent legal repercussions.
