The police in Srinagar have arrested a goldsmith for selling fake gold ornaments. This happened after a man named Nisar Ahmad Bhat filed a complaint on January 9, 2025. Bhat, who lives in Bindoo Kokernag and works in Lalmandi, Srinagar, said he bought gold jewelry from Mehraj Din Qazi, the owner of M/S Soliya Ornaments in Bijbehara.
After buying the jewelry, Bhat found out that it was not real gold. He reported this to the Nowhatta Police Station. The police registered a case and quickly arrested Mehraj Din Qazi, who is from Bijbehara, and took the fake jewelry.
During questioning, Qazi admitted that he was tricking customers by putting fake marks on the fake gold ornaments. The police also learned that he was delivering these fake items to different places in Srinagar, including Nowhatta.
Tests on the seized jewelry confirmed that it was indeed fake. The police are still investigating to find out if there are more people involved in this scam.
The police are warning everyone to be careful and not to buy fake gold ornaments, especially if they are being sold at very low prices.
