Jammu 3 March: Security forces have started a manhunt for three armed terrorists in the Billawar area of Kathua district, Jammu and Kashmir. The operation began last night after local residents reported seeing the terrorists in the Pund area.
The Special Operations Group (SOG) of Billawar, along with the Indian Army’s Special Forces, launched the search around 9 PM. This area has recently been in the news due to the tragic murders of two local men, Shamsher and Roshan Lal, who were found strangled on February 16. The police are treating these murders as possible acts of terrorism.
Local people are worried about the increasing violence in their area, which had been peaceful even during the height of terrorism in the 1990s. “This area has become unsafe, and we are living in fear. The victims were simple farmers and shepherds—how could they have gone into the forests? We just want justice for our families,” said a local resident, expressing the community’s concerns.
According to sources in the Indian Army, locals reported seeing three armed individuals around 8:30 PM yesterday. Acting quickly on this information, the Special Forces and SOG Billawar began their operation, focusing on searching the forested areas at first light.
Police officials have confirmed the sighting of the armed terrorists and noted that the area is close to Dhannu Parole, where a terrorist was killed in a clash with security forces in September 2024. The ongoing operation aims to find and neutralize the threat posed by these armed individuals and to ensure the safety of the local community.
As the situation unfolds, security forces are dedicated to keeping the people of Kathua and nearby areas safe. Residents are encouraged to stay alert and report any suspicious activities to the authorities.
