Sajjan Jindal, the billionaire Chairman and Managing Director of the JSW Group, has announced exciting plans to develop Gulmarg, a famous ski resort in north Kashmir, into a world-class holiday destination. He shared these plans after meeting with Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah during a recent MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, Exhibitions) event.

In a post on X, Jindal said, “Had a great meeting with Omar Abdullah, Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir. We discussed the development of Gulmarg along with the ski slopes to make it a world-class destination for skiing and holidays. The JSW Group will take up various initiatives through the JSW Foundation!”
Gulmarg, located about 50 kilometers from Srinagar, is a popular spot for tourists, especially those who love winter sports. The resort will host the fifth Khelo India Winter Games (KIWG) from February 22 to 25, 2025. More than 1,000 athletes from 35 states and Union Territories are expected to compete in events like alpine skiing, Nordic skiing, ski mountaineering, snowboarding, and snowshoe racing.
Chief Minister Abdullah also shared Jindal’s post and talked about the important discussions held at the MICE event to unlock the potential of Jammu and Kashmir. He stressed the need to protect the environment, celebrate the region’s culture, and focus on providing unique experiences for visitors. “J&K isn’t just heaven on earth—it’s India’s all-season gateway to wonder,” he wrote.
A government spokesperson mentioned that the talks between the chief minister and industry leaders focused on working together in different areas, including sports, fashion, food, wellness, healthcare, and technology.
Notable discussions included tennis star Vijay Amritraj, who talked about promoting golf tourism and improving sports facilities in Jammu and Kashmir. Fashion designer Anita Dongre explored ways to showcase Kashmir’s traditional textiles and craftsmanship globally.
Chef Vikas Khanna, who has a Michelin star, discussed how to use Kashmir’s unique cuisine to attract more food tourists and encourage cultural exchange. Wellness expert Mickey Mehra shared ideas on combining wellness tourism with the beautiful landscapes of Kashmir.
Representatives from tech startups also joined the discussions to find new ways to boost entrepreneurship and improve digital infrastructure in Jammu and Kashmir.
With these exciting plans and partnerships, Gulmarg is set to become a leading destination for winter sports and tourism, drawing visitors from all over the world.
