‘Laapataa Ladies’ was not included in the race for the Oscars, despite being India’s official submission. This decision has sparked significant backlash from filmmakers, actors, musicians, and audiences across India.
Social media has been inundated with posts criticizing the Academy’s choice. Recently, an actor who portrayed a cop in ‘Laapataa Ladies’ shared his reaction to the film being omitted from the final list.
In an interview with News18, he expressed his sadness, as he had hoped India would be recognized at the prestigious awards this year.
However, Ravi Kishan is striving to remain optimistic. He highlighted the positive aspects, noting that the film fulfilled the dreams of its cast and crew. He acknowledged that, despite lacking big-name stars and being produced on a modest budget, the movie achieved global recognition.
“We’re proud of what we’ve accomplished… We really believed we had a strong chance of winning the Oscars and bringing home the trophy.
My instincts were telling me we’d succeed,” Ravi shared. The actor, who has made a name for himself in both Hindi and Bhojpuri films, expressed that he never anticipated reaching the Oscars as a common individual.
Even though the film didn’t make the final cut this time, he remains hopeful for future opportunities. “I know I’m a fighter, and I’ll keep pushing forward.
I hope another great script comes my way, allowing me to reach the global stage again,” he stated. When asked about communicating with Kiran Rao, he mentioned that he attempted to contact her but was unsuccessful.
“She must be feeling down. She just returned to Mumbai after a month in the USA, where she, along with Aamir Khan, was busy campaigning for Laapataa Ladies.
They must be exhausted. I consider Kiran my lucky charm; she revitalized my career and brought me back into the spotlight,” he remarked. In closing, Ravi Kishan said that ‘Laapataa Ladies’ tells a distinctly local story and it’s a matter of pride that so many viewers have seen the film.
Kiran Rao made her directorial comeback after 14 years with ‘Laapataa Ladies’. Set in rural India, the film combines sharp satire with heartfelt sisterhood and social commentary.
It was released in theaters on March 1, 2024, and after enjoying a successful run at the box office, it became available for streaming on Netflix in April.
