Rahul Sahai, the Chairman of the Indian Chamber of Commerce (ICC) Jammu Chapter, recently engaged in a productive discussion with Shri Nalin Prabhat, IPS, the Director General of Police (DGP) for Jammu and Kashmir, during the Thana Diwas event held at the Model Police Station in Gandhi Nagar, Jammu.
Sahai expressed his appreciation for the J&K Police Department’s commendable work in maintaining law and order, particularly in their recent successes in dismantling theft and drug trafficking operations. He praised the DGP’s exceptional leadership in fostering peace and security throughout the region.
During the meeting, Sahai proposed several initiatives aimed at improving community relations and enhancing public safety. He suggested the establishment of a Public Grievance Redressal and Feedback System, which would include dedicated email addresses and an online complaint portal for citizens to voice their concerns easily. He also recommended that Station House Officers (SHOs) hold regular meetings with the public in various sectors to gather real-time feedback and strengthen community ties.
In addition, Sahai called for bi-monthly meetings at the district level, involving prominent citizens, industry leaders, and representatives from civil society, to foster collaboration and address community issues more effectively.
Highlighting the importance of public safety, Sahai urged residents to install CCTV cameras in both residential and commercial properties. He emphasized that such measures could deter criminal activity and aid police investigations.
To improve the efficiency of passport and other verification processes, Sahai proposed the creation of a dedicated verification department with online processing capabilities. This would allow police officers to concentrate on their primary responsibilities of maintaining law and order.
On behalf of the ICC Jammu, Sahai also suggested organizing an Orientation Program on New Criminal Laws for members of civil society, industry, trade, and commerce, pending the DGP’s approval.
Furthermore, he proposed a special event, similar to “Umang,” to honor J&K Police personnel for their outstanding service, with a request for the Hon’ble Lieutenant Governor to serve as the Chief Guest.
In closing, Sahai reaffirmed the ICC Jammu’s commitment to supporting the J&K Police in their efforts to enhance public safety, industrial security, and effective policing. He stressed the importance of collaboration among law enforcement, industry, and the community to create a safer and crime-free Jammu.
