Jammu, January 4, 2025 — Last year, police in Jammu district arrested 408 individuals involved in bovine smuggling. Among those arrested, eight smugglers were detained under the Public Safety Act (PSA), according to police reports.
A police spokesperson stated that a total of 378 First Information Reports (FIRs) were filed, leading to the arrests. During this operation, authorities seized 354 vehicles and rescued 3,408 bovines from illegal transport.
These actions were part of a campaign called Operation Kamdhenu, aimed at combating bovine smuggling in the region. The police have also started keeping records of known smugglers and are working to cancel the registration certificates, route permits, and licenses of vehicles that have been repeatedly involved in smuggling activities.
To enhance future enforcement efforts, a detailed database of offenders has been created. Senior Superintendent of Police Joginder Singh emphasized the police’s commitment to protecting public sentiments and animal rights.
“Our strict actions under Operation Kamdhenu are focused on breaking down the bovine smuggling network and putting an end to this issue in our area,” he stated.
The police’s proactive measures have been welcomed by the community, reflecting a strong stance against illegal activities that harm both animals and public safety.
