Jammu 04 March: The Jammu & Kashmir Government has announced that over 4.48 crore tourists, including 1.20 lakh foreign visitors, came to the region in the last two years. This increase in tourism shows that more people are interested in visiting Jammu & Kashmir, as mentioned in a recent meeting of the Legislative Assembly.
During the meeting, Tourism Minister Omar Abdullah shared that in 2023, about 2.12 crore tourists visited Jammu & Kashmir, and in 2024, that number rose to 2.36 crore. The number of foreign tourists also grew, with 55,337 visiting in 2023 and 65,452 in 2024. Domestic tourism is thriving as well, with 2.11 crore domestic tourists in 2023 and an increase to 2.35 crore in 2024. This growth is due to better infrastructure, safety measures, and promotional efforts to attract visitors from across India and beyond.
To support this increase in visitors, the Jammu & Kashmir government has invested a total of Rs 35.08 crore in promoting tourism over the past two years. This includes spending Rs 14.14 crore in the 2023-34 fiscal year and Rs 20.94 crore in 2024-25. This investment shows the government’s commitment to improving the tourism experience and highlighting the region’s natural beauty and culture.
Additionally, the government has outsourced 59 tourism assets in the last two years to improve services. This move aims to make operations smoother and enhance the quality of services provided to tourists, ensuring they have a great experience.
The rise in tourist numbers in Jammu & Kashmir is a positive sign for the region’s tourism sector. With ongoing investments in infrastructure and promotional activities, the government hopes to make Jammu & Kashmir an even more attractive travel destination. As the region continues to draw both domestic and international tourists, it looks forward to a bright future in tourism.
