On Monday, Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah shared his hope that Prime Minister Narendra Modi will keep his promise to restore statehood to the region. Speaking at a public event in Sonamarg during the inauguration of the Z-Morh Tunnel, Abdullah praised the Prime Minister’s commitment to the people of Jammu and Kashmir.
He said, “I believe that Prime Minister Modi, who has already fulfilled two promises from his last visit to Srinagar—holding assembly elections and bridging the gap between Delhi and Jammu and Kashmir—will also announce statehood for J&K soon.” Abdullah noted that the Prime Minister’s frequent visits and the launch of development projects show his dedication to the region.
The Chief Minister also paid tribute to the seven workers who were killed in an attack on the Z-Morh project last year. He remarked, “For the last 35 years, the people of Jammu and Kashmir have sacrificed a lot for the progress of our nation. I belong to a party that has made many sacrifices for our country.”
Abdullah emphasized that the Prime Minister’s presence at the event sends a strong message to those who do not want to see Jammu and Kashmir prosper. “Those who wish to see J&K fail will not succeed and will face defeat,” he added.
As the region looks ahead, Abdullah’s comments reflect a hopeful outlook for the return of statehood and continued development in Jammu and Kashmir.
