The Government of Jammu and Kashmir has started the “Transport Subsidy Scheme” to replace old public buses with new, eco-friendly ones. This plan is to help reduce pollution, cut down traffic, and update public transport.
The scheme gives money to owners of buses, minibuses, and matadors that are more than 15 years old. They can get Rs 5 lakh or 16% of the cost of a new vehicle, whichever is less. The goal is to buy buses that pollute less and are better for the environment.
To get this help, owners must pay all their taxes and fees. They also need to show proof that they have scrapped their old vehicles. Once approved, they have three months to get a loan and buy a new bus. These new buses must run on certain routes for at least five years, and owners must report regularly to the Regional Transport Office.
Transport Commissioner Vishesh Paul Mahajan said this scheme will make public transport better and reduce traffic. He encouraged owners to apply soon because the scheme is only for this financial year.
This program is a big step towards cleaner transportation and better city travel in Jammu and Kashmir.
