Pulwama, 24 March – Today, MLA Waheed Para from Pulwama spoke in the Assembly about the need for a 33% reservation for women in elected positions, including Urban Local Bodies (ULBs) and the Assembly. His comments came during discussions on funding for the horticulture and agriculture departments.
Para highlighted that, even though women contribute significantly in many areas, they are still underrepresented in elected roles. He pointed out that this lack of representation means women do not have an equal say in making decisions that affect their lives and communities.
“Implementing a 33% reservation for women is essential for giving them a voice and empowering them to take part in politics,” Para said. He believes that this change would help create a fairer society where both men and women have equal chances to participate in governance and public service.
While discussing grants, Para stressed that making this reservation a priority is important. He urged that it should be addressed along with other policies aimed at helping marginalized communities and ensuring fair growth across Jammu and Kashmir.
Para’s call for women’s reservation is part of a larger effort to promote gender equality in politics. By pushing for this change, he hopes to create a political environment where women’s voices are heard and valued.
As the Assembly continues its discussions, the push for 33% reservation for women remains an important topic, reflecting the commitment to empowering women in all areas of society.
