Mahakumbh Fire: A fire incident occurred at the Mahakumbh Mela in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh, on Sunday afternoon, causing alarm among attendees. The fire started around 4:30 PM in Sector 19 of the Tent City, reportedly due to an explosion of cooking cylinders. Thankfully, there have been no immediate reports of casualties.
Pramod Sharma, the chief fire officer for the Kumbh Mela, said that 15 fire trucks were sent to put out the fire, which affected 18 tents. Prayagraj District Magistrate Ravindra Kumar said that the situation is now under control and confirmed that no one was injured.
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath visited the site of the fire to check on the situation and spoke with officials and firefighters. Prime Minister Narendra Modi also called Adityanath to ask about the fire, showing that the government is taking this incident seriously.
Uttar Pradesh Minister AK Sharma expressed relief that no lives were lost, saying, “I thank Ma Ganga, Triveni, and Lete Hanuman ji for this.” He added that the police and rescue teams are on the scene.
The Samajwadi Party shared their concern on social media, asking the government to act quickly to help those affected. The Mahakumbh started on January 13 and will continue until February 26. In just six days, more than 7 crore people have come to take part in the holy event.
The Uttar Pradesh government expects that the 2025 Mahakumbh Mela will attract over 45 crore visitors, making it one of the largest religious gatherings in the world. Authorities are working hard to keep everyone safe as the event goes on.
