On Monday, Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi for turning Jammu and Kashmir into a “real paradise” and for significantly reducing terrorism in the region. Speaking at the inauguration of the 6.5-km-long Z-Morh Tunnel in Central Kashmir, Sinha highlighted the developmental progress achieved under Modi’s leadership.
“The government led by Prime Minister Modi has eradicated terrorism from Jammu and Kashmir, making peace, progress, and prosperity the hallmarks of his administration,” Sinha stated. He described the Z-Morh Tunnel, which was built at a cost of ₹2,700 crore, as a “game changer” for the region, referring to it as a “Bhagya Rekha” or lifeline that will provide year-round access to the scenic Sonamarg.
“This is a day of immense pride. This tunnel will enhance connectivity and open up new economic opportunities for the area,” Sinha added. He also announced that the highly anticipated Zojila Tunnel, which will connect Sonamarg to Ladakh, is expected to be completed by 2026. “One by one, PM Modi has turned your dreams into reality,” he remarked.
Expressing confidence in a bright future for Jammu and Kashmir, Sinha stated, “Under Prime Minister Modi’s leadership, the region will reach new heights of development and prosperity.” He emphasized the Prime Minister’s commitment to the area, revealing that road projects worth ₹1.5 lakh crore are currently in progress. Additionally, he noted that 99% of J&K’s villages have been connected through the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY).
In 2024 alone, PM Modi visited Jammu and Kashmir three times, inaugurating projects worth ₹41,000 crore. “The dream of connecting Kashmir to Kanyakumari is becoming a reality,” Sinha remarked. He also highlighted the remarkable growth in the tourism sector, attributing it to the newfound peace and stability in the region. “In 2024, 2.35 crore tourists visited Jammu and Kashmir, showcasing its transformation into a hub of tourism, not terrorism,” he stated.
During the event, Sinha paid tribute to the seven Z-Morh tunnel staff members who lost their lives in a terrorist attack at Gagangeer, honoring their sacrifice as part of the ongoing journey toward peace and development in Jammu and Kashmir.
