Ladakh’s Lieutenant Governor, Brigadier (Retd) B D Mishra, has promised to help the Indian ice hockey men’s team, mostly made up of players from Ladakh, get to the ninth Asian Winter Games in China. This assurance came during a meeting with the team, led by Tsewang Gyaltsan, at the Lieutenant Governor’s office.
Gyaltsan informed the Lt Governor that the sports ministry had decided not to send the team to the games, which are set for February 7 to 14 in Harbin, China. He asked for Mishra’s help, stressing that the team has been training hard for this event.
After speaking with Union Minister of Youth Services and Sports Mansukh Mandaviya, Lt Governor Mishra assured the players that he would do everything possible to ensure they can compete. Most of the team members are from Ladakh and play ice hockey at altitudes over 11,000 feet.
Mishra highlighted how important it is for these young athletes to participate, as it offers them a chance to shine on an international stage and brings pride to Ladakh.
