The Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Sangharsh Samiti has announced that Katra town will be completely shut down on December 18. This is in protest against the planned ropeway project.
Karan Singh, a member of the committee, spoke to the Dogra Times. He said the decision was made during a meeting at Shalimar Park, Katra. Local traders, stakeholders, and residents attended because they are worried about how the project might affect them. They believe the ropeway could harm local businesses and disturb the traditional pilgrimage experience.
During the meeting, Samiti representatives urged everyone to work together to protect the town’s economy and culture. Karan Singh mentioned that the shutdown is meant to get the government’s attention on the possible negative effects of the ropeway. He added that the Samiti plans to continue protesting until their concerns are addressed. They will discuss more strategies in future meetings.
Members of the Sangharsh Samiti, along with other stakeholders, also held a large rally in Katra Town. Former Minister Jugal Kishore Sharma and others joined the rally.
