JAMMU: The Jammu and Kashmir government has revealed that approximately 50,000 graduates have completed their studies in the last two years, while around 11,000 selections have been made by the Jammu and Kashmir Public Service Commission (JKPSC) and Jammu and Kashmir Services Selection Board (JKSSB) during the same period. This information was shared by the concerned Minister in response to a question raised by MLA Chandar Prakash Ganga.
According to the Minister, a total of 25,428 graduates graduated in 2023, followed by 23,926 in 2024. In terms of job selections, JKPSC made 2,175 selections, while JKSSB contributed significantly with 9,351 selections in the same timeframe. Overall, the total number of graduates who passed out in the last two years stands at 49,354, with a combined total of 11,526 selections made by both recruitment bodies.
In addition to public sector employment, the private sector has also seen significant job creation. The industrial sector generated 15,719 jobs in 2022-23 and an impressive 29,969 jobs in 2023-24, indicating a positive trend in employment opportunities.
The Minister further highlighted the success of self-employment and livelihood schemes, stating that over the past four years, a total of 9.58 lakh self-employment opportunities have been created through various initiatives, including Mumkin, Tejaswini, PMEGP, and REGP, up to January 2025. The year-wise breakdown of self-employment opportunities is as follows: 2,99,266 in 2021-22, 2,83,664 in 2022-23, 2,38,675 in 2023-24, and 1,36,165 up to January 2025.
Additionally, the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA) has played a crucial role in providing employment, generating 3.01 crore person-days up to January 2025 and benefiting 8.07 lakh households.
