Anantnag, 11 March – The Jammu and Kashmir Government has sent a proposal to the Union Ministry of Road Transport and Highways to build the Kapran-Desa road. This road will connect Kapran in Anantnag District to Dessa in Doda District. However, the project still needs approval from the central government.
In a recent assembly meeting, the Minister for the Road and Buildings Department responded to questions from MLA G.A. Mir about the road’s status. The Minister highlighted that improving road connections between districts is a top priority for the department. He mentioned, “These projects depend on the availability of resources.”
The Kapran-Desa road is intended to improve travel between the two districts. The Minister noted that discussions about making this road a National Highway and starting its construction have been held with the Union Ministry, but they are still waiting for the green light. Once the approval is received, they can begin detailed surveys and prepare the project report.
The Minister also provided an update on the Anantnag Dooru Verinag (ADV) road, which is about 24.64 kilometers long. This road has an average width of about 5.5 meters for the carriageway and 7.5 meters for the roadway, and it is fully blacktopped. This year, around 4.5 kilometers of the ADV road has been resurfaced. However, there are no current plans to widen this road.
Looking ahead, the Minister mentioned that the plan for road construction and upgrades for the financial year 2025-26 has not yet been created. He assured that the suggestions from elected representatives will be considered during the planning process.
If the Kapran-Desa road gets approved, it could greatly improve travel and access for people in the region, helping to boost economic growth and development.
