Srinagar, Feb 25 – Owais Ahmad, the CEO of Srinagar Smart City, announced on Tuesday that officials are looking into starting e-bus services in Bandipora, Kupwara, and other areas in north Kashmir. This decision comes after a high demand for eco-friendly buses and good revenue from current services.
Ahmad said, “We want to expand the service to other districts. There has been a lot of interest from north Kashmir, especially Kupwara and Bandipora, and we hope to have smart buses running in these areas soon.” He mentioned that the distances to these districts are suitable for e-buses, and charging stations can be set up if needed.
He also shared that under the Prime Minister’s e-Bus Seva scheme, plans are in place to add 100 more buses, which are currently going through the tendering process. “We hope to announce when they will be ready soon,” he added.
Additionally, Ahmad, who is also the Commissioner of Srinagar Municipal Corporation, talked about the weather forecast. He assured everyone that all necessary equipment, including dewatering pumps and stations, is ready, and the department is prepared to handle any weather-related issues.
The introduction of e-bus services is expected to improve public transportation in the region while supporting environmentally friendly practices. More updates will be shared as the plans move forward.
