Anantnag, 24 January – Anantnag Police have taken strong action against drug trafficking by seizing more than 4.258 kilograms of narcotics in two separate operations and arresting four people involved in the illegal trade.
In the first operation, a police team from Bijbehara Police Station was checking vehicles at Bonpora Uranhal when they stopped an auto-rickshaw with the registration number JK01K-2485. After searching the vehicle, they found 2.8 kilograms of a substance that looked like charas powder with three men inside.
The arrested individuals are Zubair Ahmad Dar, son of Nazir Ahmad Dar, from Khanabal Batangoo; Muzafar Ahmad Dar, son of Mohammad Yousuf Dar, from Uranhal; and Umar Majeed Ganie, son of Abdul Majeed, from Chee Anantnag.
In another operation, police from Srigufwara Police Station stopped a suspicious man carrying a bag while he was walking from Chek Poshkreeri towards Poshkreeri. The man tried to run away when he saw the police but was quickly caught. He was identified as Mohd Shafi Ganie, son of the late Gh Ahmad Ganie, from Chek Poshkreeri. A search of his bag revealed 1.458 kilograms of cannabis powder.
Following these incidents, two separate cases have been registered at the police stations. Investigations are ongoing to find out more about these drug activities.
