Bharti Airtel has become the first private telecom company to launch mobile services in seven border villages of Kupwara, Baramulla, and Bandipore districts in Jammu and Kashmir. The announcement was made on Wednesday.
As part of the Vibrant Village Programme, Airtel has connected villages like Kachhal, Balbir, Razdan Pass, Taya Top, Ustad, Kathi, and Cheema to the rest of India.
These villages are located in the Keran, Machhal, Tangdhar, Gurez, and Uri valley regions across the three districts. Airtel is currently the only private telecom operator offering services in these areas.
The company has set up 15 mobile towers to help the local people and provide communication links for soldiers along the Line of Control.
Airtel has worked with the Indian Army to bring connectivity to these remote villages in North Kashmir.
Recently, Airtel also established network services in the Galwan River region and Daulat Beg Oldie (DBO), India’s northernmost military outpost.
Union Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia has stated that every corner of the country will have telecom connectivity by June 2025.
