Chief Secretary Atal Dulloo held an important meeting today to help finish the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in Awantipora faster. The meeting included people from different departments, like Health, Public Works, and Water Supply. They talked about how the construction is going and what problems need to be solved to complete this important healthcare facility on time.
Many key officials were at the meeting, including the Executive Director of AIIMS Awantipora, the Divisional Commissioner of Kashmir, and other important department heads.
During the meeting, Chief Secretary Dulloo checked on the construction site and asked when the work would be finished. He was worried about not having enough workers and said they need to bring in more laborers as soon as winter is over. He also told the Water Supply Department to finish the first part of the water supply system by May. This is important to make sure the hospital has water when it opens.
Dulloo also looked at the road leading to the hospital and talked about what is needed for future growth of the project. He asked Dr. Sachidananda Mohanty, the Executive Director of AIIMS, if there were any problems that could slow down the work and promised that the government would help.
Dr. Mohanty shared that about 61 percent of the construction is done across all 57 blocks. He said AIIMS Awantipora is expected to open by the end of November 2025. The facility will have six hospital blocks, four academic blocks, 16 residential blocks, 12 hostel blocks, an Ayush block, a night shelter, and a guest house.
The meeting also talked about challenges caused by cold weather, which has made some workers leave. Right now, there are about 850 workers on-site, down from 2,400-2,500 during warmer weather. Despite this, officials are hopeful that the project will be finished on time, and work is still moving forward on important parts of the construction.
