Pakistani troops on Wednesday reportedly faced heavy losses after the Indian Army responded strongly to unprovoked firing from across the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir. This incident took place in the Poonch district, specifically in the Krishna Ghati area, where tensions have been rising recently.

Security officials said that the ceasefire violation by Pakistan happened just a day after two Indian Army soldiers, including a Captain, were killed by an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) explosion caused by suspected terrorists in the Akhnoor sector of Jammu district. The Pakistani forces fired on an Indian forward post in the Tarkundi area, which led to a strong response from the Indian Army.

While officials mentioned that there were “heavy casualties” on the Pakistani side, they did not provide specific numbers. The Indian Army has not confirmed or denied these reports.

In another incident, a Junior Commissioned Officer (JCO) from the Indian Army was slightly injured after accidentally stepping on a landmine in the same area. The JCO, who is from Mendhar, was part of a patrol team monitoring the LoC to prevent terrorist infiltration. He was taken to a military hospital for treatment.

The situation along the LoC has become tense, with an increase in hostile activities from across the border over the past week. This was the first ceasefire violation of the year and the fourth cross-border incident in just five days.

Earlier this week, a soldier was shot while on duty at a forward post in the Kalal area of the Nowshera sector. Additionally, an Army patrol came under fire from terrorists in the Keri sector of Rajouri on February 8, indicating that militants are trying to cross into Indian territory.

On the night of February 4-5, a landmine explosion reportedly caused injuries to terrorists attempting to infiltrate into India from the Krishna Ghati sector, highlighting ongoing security challenges in the area.

In response to these events, Lieutenant General Navin Sachdeva, the General Officer Commanding (GOC) of the Jammu-based White Knight Corps, reviewed the security situation along the LoC in Rajouri district. He visited forward areas with other senior military officials to assess the situation and praised the troops for their vigilance and dedication.

The GOC urged all personnel to stay prepared for any situation, emphasizing the Indian Army’s commitment to countering threats along the border. As the situation develops, both military and civilian observers are closely watching for further updates in this tense region.
