Srinagar – A new bill to ban alcohol in Jammu and Kashmir has been introduced by National Conference (NC) MLA Ahsan Pardesi. This follows a similar proposal from a legislator of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and has brought the issue of alcohol prohibition back into the spotlight.

Pardesi’s bill aims to stop the sale of alcohol, especially in areas with a majority Muslim population. Supporters of the ban argue that alcohol has negative effects on society and goes against cultural and religious beliefs. They believe that banning alcohol would create a healthier community.

However, some people are against the bill because they worry about the economic impact. They point out that alcohol sales can boost tourism and local businesses. The Union Territory administration has been increasing the number of liquor outlets to generate more revenue, which has led to a conflict between economic interests and calls for a ban.

With both PDP and NC legislators supporting the idea of prohibition, there is a chance that the demand for a ban could grow. Still, it is unclear whether the bill will get enough political support or face challenges due to economic concerns.

As discussions about the bill continue in the Assembly, many are watching closely for updates on this important issue, which could affect the social and economic situation in Jammu and Kashmir.
