A major accident occurred at Kannauj railway station on Saturday when a ceiling slab of an under-construction building suddenly collapsed. The incident has left several workers and railway staff feared trapped under the debris.

The station was undergoing renovations as part of the Amrit Bharat scheme, with a two-storey building being constructed. The collapse happened early in the morning during work on the ceiling slab.

Rescue operations were launched immediately, and injured individuals were rushed to the hospital. Of the approximately 40 people present at the site, 23 have been rescued so far. Five individuals with serious injuries have been referred to Lucknow for further treatment. The Uttar Pradesh government has announced financial assistance of ₹2.5 lakh for those seriously injured and ₹50,000 for those with minor injuries.

Following the collapse, panic spread among locals who rushed to the scene but were unable to assist due to the heavy debris. Teams from the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), Government Railway Police (GRP), Railway Protection Force (RPF), and local police are actively engaged in rescue and relief efforts.
