On Tuesday morning, January 7, 2025, a strong earthquake hit Kathmandu with a magnitude of 7.1. The quake happened at 6:50 a.m., centered in Dinggye, China. People in Bihar’s Madhubani, India, felt it too.

In Kathmandu, many people ran outside in fear, but there are no reports of damage or injuries. Nearby areas like Kavrepalanchwok and Dhading also felt the shaking.

Near Mount Everest, places like Lobuche experienced aftershocks. An official in Nepal’s Namche region said, “It shook strongly here, everyone is awake, but we don’t know about any damages yet.”
