The National Conference Government, led by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, plans to offer 200 units of free electricity to residents of Jammu and Kashmir starting in March of next year, emphasizing the need for increased power supply during the harsh winter months.

This initiative aligns with the party’s election manifesto commitment to provide free electricity. Regarding job prospects for the youth, the Chief Minister stated that numerous vacancies have been sent to recruitment agencies and assured that all commitments made to the public would be honored within five years, aiming to present their record before seeking votes in the future.

In a recent interview, Abdullah addressed tensions with the Congress party, particularly about their objections to Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs), agreeing with the BJP’s stance. He criticized the inconsistency of parties that celebrate victories when using EVMs but question their reliability when faced with defeats, stating that if parties have concerns about EVMs, they should remain consistent.

Abdullah highlighted that electoral machines function the same regardless of outcomes and should not be blamed for defeats. He provided his own electoral experiences as examples, noting that he faced setbacks in Lok Sabha elections but secured success in state Assembly polls.

On the topic of dynastic politics, he challenged the BJP’s criticisms, arguing that familial political lineage does not guarantee success. He mentioned that while his family has a significant political background—his grandfather being the founding figure of modern Jammu and Kashmir and his father a long-serving Chief Minister—he himself lost elections and faced challenges.

Abdullah pointed out that his sons, who have recently been vocal on political issues, will need to carve their own paths rather than relying on their family name.

He labeled the BJP’s stance on dynasty politics as hypocritical, claiming that they only oppose political families when it suits their agenda, while ignoring similar dynamics among their allies.
