NEW DELHI: Intensifying its accusations of a “nexus” between Congress and billionaire George Soros, the BJP on Sunday highlighted ties to former party president Sonia Gandhi, alleging her connections to an organization that has promoted the idea of Kashmir as a “separate entity.” The party claimed Sonia was collaborating with the 94-year-old hedge fund manager and currency speculator to undermine India’s progress.

BJP stated, “Sonia Gandhi, as co-president of the Forum of Democratic Leaders in Asia Pacific (FDL-AP) Foundation, is associated with an organization funded by the George Soros Foundation, which has openly expressed views that consider Kashmir a separate entity.”

They also pointed out that her leadership of the Rajiv Gandhi Foundation resulted in a partnership with the Soros Foundation, suggesting foreign funding has significant influence on Indian organizations. Additionally, they referenced Salil Shetty, the vice-president of the Soros-backed Open Society Foundations, who participated in the Congress-led ‘ ’ alongside Rahul Gandhi.

The BJP accused Rahul of using the Soros-supported Organised Crime and Corruption Reporting Project (OCCRP) to bolster his press conference regarding the Adani Group, asserting that it reflects a troubling association and an aim to destabilize India’s economy. The party also noted that both Soros and Rahul share a similar viewpoint on the Adani issue, implying it could lead to the downfall of the Modi government.

Furthermore, BJP highlighted Congress MP Shashi Tharoor’s remark about Soros being an “old friend” to reinforce their narrative of a deep-rooted connection. Despite efforts, Congress did not respond to these allegations. The BJP’s claims are expected to incite heated discussions when Parliament reconvenes on Monday, with party MP Nishikant Dubey announcing his plans to interrogate Rahul Gandhi.

Dubey intends to ask ten questions, citing US embassy officials’ acknowledgment of US government funding for OCCRP alongside Soros’s foundation, claiming these entities are allegedly aiming to undermine India’s economy and discredit the Modi government in collaboration with opposition leaders. He stated, “I plan to raise my ten questions in Lok Sabha tomorrow. The opposition is trying to silence me. Lok Sabha Rule 357 guarantees my right to inquire.”

His questions will address whether Shetty’s involvement in the ‘Bharat Jodo Yatra’ was financially supported by Soros, if Rahul had meetings with US politicians associated with Soros who advocate for India’s division, and the nature of prior interactions between Soros and Congress members, including historical connections to figures like Nehru, along with any financial assistance Soros may have provided to the children of Congress leaders disguised as startup support.
