A 21-year-old man from Anantnag, J&K, has been arrested for allegedly killing a co-worker at a powerloom factory in Thane district, Maharashtra. The accused, Sabir Rahamtullah Ansari, is from East Champaran in Bihar, while the victim, Neeraj Kumar Gopinath Vishwakarma, was 40 years old and came from Unnao in Uttar Pradesh.
The incident happened on February 4, when Ansari reportedly attacked Vishwakarma with an iron hammer after stealing his salary. This attack took place in the Khoni area of Bhiwandi city, where both men worked. After the assault, Vishwakarma was taken to KEM Hospital in Mumbai, where he died from his injuries on February 18.
The police began investigating after a witness reported the crime. Senior Inspector Vishwas Dagle said they tracked Ansari’s movements and initially thought he had escaped to Delhi. However, by the time the police team arrived in Delhi, he had already left.
Using CCTV footage from train stations and tracking Ansari’s mobile phone, the police found that he had taken a train to Jammu and Kashmir. Further investigation led them to find him in Anantnag.
On Sunday, police arrested Ansari at a bakery in Lal Chowk, Anantnag. They found a stolen mobile phone and Rs 29,000 in cash with him.
Ansari has been brought back to Bhiwandi, where the investigation is still ongoing. This case has raised concerns about crime and safety in the area, and more updates will be provided as the investigation continues.
